![]() ![]() When the phrase “respect your elders” is demanded from our parents at a young age, it makes it difficult to differentiate who actually deserves respect and who doesn’t. The issue with immediately granting someone respect because of their age is it takes away from the weight that respect holds. No, I do not mean discounted prices and the good seats on public transportation but the overall lack of respect for younger people and disregard for how we feel. That being said, older people are allowed to get away with a lot of things because of their age. We should all realize without them, the world as we know it would not exist today. This is not meant to bash the older generation. ![]() However, I am here to tell society, age does not warrant respect and bad attitudes are bad no matter how many years come with it. We can really respect a man only if he doesn’t always look out for himself.“Respect your elders!” A phrase society deems so important it continues to recycle it throughout generations today. Responsibility and respect of others and their religious beliefs are also part of freedom. Have a big enough heart to love unconditionally, and a broad enough mind to embrace the differences that make each of us unique. The people I respect most behave as if they were immortal and as if society was eternal. And if you do not respect someone, then do not listen to their opinion. Someone once told me that if you respect a person, listen to their opinion. I can even respect people’s decisions and lifestyle choices just as I hope they have the courtesy to respect my decisions and my choices. Regardless of their race, religion, their proclivities, the desire of their heart and how they want to live their life and the decisions that they make. You can have respect for someone, even if you don’t respect everything they do.” – Anderson Silva ![]()
